Yumchaa's name is a word play on tea traditions from China, the world's largest tea producing country, and Britain, one of the larger consuming countries. Yum+Chaa in Cantonese means 'drink tea' and in English slang 'yum' means tasty and 'chaa' is slang for cup of tea.

Yumchaa sells unique tea blends from all around the world, prefering to serve tea loose to allow for the leaves to infuse more evenly.
This follows a more traditional approach to tea than using tea bags, which were a much later invention. The tea bag was invented in the USA in the early 20th century by Thomas Sullivan, a New York tea trader, who sent samples of tea in silk bags to customers. His customers unknowingly put them in the water, inventing the teabag.
Yumchaa's preference for loose leaf tea ensures that tea is fresher and has more flavour as, now, tea bags typically contain broken tea-leaves, which have lost their essential oils, and tea dust.
